God Allows U-Turns – Changing Course in Midlife

Back in 2005

God has done some pretty incredible things in my life since I first began communicating online with fellow readers, writers, and friends. It’s now 25-books and 10-years later and a great deal of water has passed under the bridge (or, is it “over the dam?”) since I launched my first website and began the journey of Internet communication.

Back then we didn’t have blogs. Back then if you referred to a male chimp you were talking about a guy with ape-like tendencies, and the only constant contact we had was sending out hard-copy newsletters via the United States Postal Service.

My publishing career began with God Allows U-Turns. One of the most fulfilling aspects of the God Allows U-Turns ministry was working with new writers to help them fine tune their true short stories for inclusion in one of the God Allow U-Turns anthologies. It’s been an honor to have worked with hundreds of writers since book number one in the series was published by Barbour Publishing in 2001, including many first-time authors. It’s been such a blessing to experience the joy of helping my brothers and sisters in Christ to experience their writing and publishing dreams—and to know that their stories are continuing to inspire and encourage others.

Please give a shout out if you are a God Allows U-Turns author, or if you know someone who is.

It’s been several years since the last two anthologies were released from Bethany House Publishing, yet the God Allows U-Turns ministry outreach will always hold a special place in my heart. As I have traveled over the past decade, it’s always a joy to meet a U-Turns author, and to see how far many of you have come in your writing and speaking careers.

God Allows U-Turns will be experiencing a renaissance of sorts over the next few weeks, please stay tuned for an exciting announcement.

In the mean time, I’d like to give away one FREE copy of Volume One in the God Allows U-Turns series. This book has been out of print for some time and this copy comes from my personal (diminishing) supply. Folks tell me it’s a collector item…talk about feeling a mite bit long of tooth!

If you’re a boomer like me, chances are you’ve made more than a few new direction changes in your life. Please share your comment about what God Allows U-Turns means to you—the books or the sentiment itself. I’ll place everyone’s name in a drawing and announce the winner on Friday.

Until then, here’s to second chances and new beginnings!

  1. Wow! How cool to see the post and YES! Has it been THAT long? You will always hold a special place in my heart as I remember us planning the internet marketing “campaign” to let people know you were compiling the book and looking for stories. And how exciting it was when they started coming in!

I dreamed about you the other night, hon, and have had you on my mind. If you ever wanna chat, I really am a phone call away. I miss you and your boatload of enthusiasm! You are one of the few people that get excited with me not look at me like I am weird when I talk about the possibilities of reach many for Christ (with internet tools too!)

    Love you,
    Lisa

I have a few regrets in life–one of those is finding an author I truly enjoy reading, and one who challenges and inspires me to redefine my own boundaries–but discovering them after I’ve already made so many blunders in relationships. Better late than never, however. I can break the cycle of enabling. Thanks for your powerful book. Can’t wait to read “God Allows U-Turns”. . .I’m thankful for the truth of that statement since I’ve often found myself a little misdirected on my life’s journey. His mercy triumphs over his judgment!

  3. Well ladies, looks like it’s a tie! I’ll be happy to send a book to each of you! Thanks so much for your comments. Please send your mailing addresses to me via email to: allison@allisonbottke.com

Lisa, I’d love to chat soon, can you please include your phone number?

And Lela, join the club in feeling misdirected at times in life! Yikes, if I had a twenty for every time I made a wrong turn (aka: a wrong choice) I’d be a very wealthy woman!

Yet I am wealthy, for I am the daughter of a King! We all are! God Allows U-Turns really does resonate with so many of our life journeys, doesn’t it?
